Modelling the transient effect in naturally fractured reservoirs

چکیده

Abstract Modelling of Naturally Fractured Reservoirs (NFR’s) is a very challenging task. NFR’s are often simulated using the dual-porosity (DP) model, which requires significantly lower computational time and less simulation cost compared with fine-grid modelling. However, DP model unable to capture transient effect, saturation front, its tendency overestimate predicted oil recovery, as invaded fluid immediately reaching gridblock centre once exceeds critical saturation. The matrix block discretisation modifying transfer function among widely investigated areas represent effect improve accuracy. Adjusting results in complicated unstable solutions, make this approach limited use. technique, such Multiple Interacting Continua (MINC), one utilised approaches NFR’s. model’s layers provide required mean include heterogeneities. In work, we present an improvement original MINC enhance accuracy stability particular case two subdomains model. We suggested equal volume sub-blocks, besides performing adjustment calculation new adjustments have provided stable solution improved Besides advantage handle various heterogeneities excellent marginal errors, hence reliable performance prediction.

Transient Pressure Analysis of Pressure Sensitive Naturally Fractured Reservoirs

This paper presents the results of a study with the main aim of investigating the effect of considering the pressure sensitivity of the natural fractures of a fissured formation on the transient pressure analysis of well tests. Two motivations for this study were as follows. First, many (or most in some cases) of the producing reservoirs (geothermal and petroleum) are naturally fractured, showi...

Coupling Geomechanics and Transport in Naturally Fractured Reservoirs

Large amounts of hydrocarbon reserves are trapped in naturally fractured reservoirs which arechallenging in terms of accurate recovery prediction because of their joint fabric complexity andlithological heterogeneity. Canada, for example, has over 400 billion barrels of crude oil in fracturedcarbonates in Alberta, most of this being bitumen of viscosity greater than 106 cP in the GrosmontFormat...

Unsteady-State Behavior of Naturally Fractured Reservoirs

A simplified model was employed to develop mathematically equations that describe the unsteadystate behavior of naturally fractured reservoirs, The analysis resulted in an equation of flow of radial symmetry whose solution, for the infinite case, is identical in form and function to that describing the unsteady-state behavior of homogeneous reservoirs. Accepting the assumed model, for all pract...

Hydraulic Fracturing of Naturally Fractured Reservoirs

A carefully engineered stimulation that makes use of opening mode fractures is an effective way to reduce injection and production impedance and provide better access for the fluid to enter and promote shearing in the main reservoir volume. We present results from field experiments that mapped the fracture geometry for opening mode hydraulic fractures formed in naturally fractured crystalline r...

A Novel Integrated Approach to Modelling of Depletion-Induced Change in Full Permeability Tensor of Naturally Fractured Reservoirs

More than half of all hydrocarbon reservoirs are Naturally Fractured Reservoirs (NFRs), in which production forecasting is a complicated function of fluid flow in a fracture-matrix system. Modelling of fluid flow in NFRs is challenging due to formation heterogeneity and anisotropy. Stress sensitivity and depletion effect on already-complex reservoir permeability add to the sophistication. Horiz...
